HCG can be administered either orally or through injection of the liquid. The hormone is injected just under the skin or into the muscle.

HCG is said to cause the hypothalamus to order the body to command fat to be released from the body's storage system. This released fat energy is combined with the food energy in order to give the body sufficient energy and avoid going into the starvation mode.

Once a dieter reaches his or her goal weight, the dieter needs to move into a maintenance phase, which is said to be very easy ofter living on the 500 calorie diet for this amount of time. This helps to maintain the weight that has been lost.

As with any diet, you should talk with your doctor before beginning this eating plan. There are risk factors that rule out certain people from participating in the HCG diet.
