Mental Stress Management: Self-Hypnosis

By Esther Tan

No one in this earth has never experienced stress. Nothing is exempted from it. Animals are no strangers to stress. We humans live more complex lives. We encounter a lot of events that cause us stress. Some of these events, such as traffic, can be avoided. Some events, such as the current economic crisis, cannot be avoided. There is nothing we can do when we are hit hard by fate. The only thing we can do is take it and adapt. For those that are new to situations like these, it can get very stressful.

Stress can do a lot of damage to people's lives. It can affect their health, career, relationships, family, and their future. But stress is not always a bad thing. It actually can have a positive effect on a person. A little, correct amount of stress can motivate us to do things asked of us that we cannot do under normal circumstances. When stress makes a person cry, then it means that the stress has been too much for that person to handle. Stress can also cause physical, emotional, and behavioral damage; and it can leave the person in emotional trauma.

It is a mistake to allow stress to take over you. Stress can and will ruin your life. There are a lot of ways to effectively manage it. The first is to go see your doctor for advice and medication. The second is to read books and research a lot in stress and anger management techniques. There are also alternatives, natural ones, which you can check out, since we all know that frequent visits to the doctor can really burn our pocket. Extensive use of medications also has side effects. Managing stress the natural way is a good alternative. All you have to do is learn how to do it and forget about side effects since there are none.

Self-hypnosis is a natural way of managing stress. It is defined as a heightened state of focus concentration (trance) with the willingness to follow instructions (suggestion). It is an effective way to manage stress because it works primarily through the subconscious or the unconscious mind. It puts you in a state of trance and is done by a practitioner. It is also used to stop bad habits such as smoking, drinking, and substance abuse, and can also be used for people who want to loose weight.

It is done by hypnotizing one's self and using the power of suggestion. It can be done by anyone who has a stable state of mind except for children and people who are mentally disabled. With hypnosis you can gain control of the areas in yourself that you have no control of in your normal state of mind. It is also used to control pain, because pain cannot be controlled in your normal state of mind, with hypnosis it can be controlled and cannot be felt by a person who is hypnotized and under the state of trance.
