By Bart Icles

TESOL has different meanings for different people. Generally, TESOL means "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages." It is also referred to by others as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) or ELT (English Language Teaching). There are different terms for it, but it all boils down to one thing, that is, it is a certification that gives a teacher the license to teach English.

A TESOL certification is a much sought-after accomplishment because not only does it mean that a teacher is officially able to teach English in any place in the world at any given time, it is also a means to become very competitive career-wise. It is a global accreditation that would allow a teacher to teach English credibly to anyone. It provides myriads of opportunities and it makes teaching a more lucrative and rewarding career than it already is.

For teachers who love to travel, TESOL is much coveted certification since the global demand for TESOL-certified teachers is now on the rise and is foreseen to keep on rising as long as non-English speakers has reasons to learn English for their own means, whether for business purposes or for personal improvement. Not only are TESOL-certified teachers able to experience different sets of culture when they go to other countries or just stay in their homeland and teach foreign students, they are also capable of earning comfortable salaries with just a little effort.

English is considered as the universal language, and the reasons why there is a clamor for a lot of non-English speakers to learn it is pretty obvious. It is the language for all trades.
