Here are a few quick job search tips that will help ensure that the hunt for your new job will go smoothly.

Be Prepared: Have a voice mail or an answering machine system in place and set up an email address service that sounds professional.

Be More Than Prepared: Even if you are not looking for work, always have an upto date resume ready to send. The perfect opportunity might come along when you least expect it.

Don't Wait: File for unemployment benefits immediately if you are laid off. You may be able to file by phone or online If you wait, your benefits check could be delayed.

Get Help: Use inexpensive or free services that provide job search assistance and career counseling such as your public library, the State Department of Labor Offices, or college career offices.

Create Your Own Templates: Have cover letter and resume copies ready to edit. That way you can change the content to match the requirements of the job you're applying for without changing the contact information or your opening and closing paragraphs.

Use Job Search Engines: Search the job search engines. Use these engine sites to search the major associations, company sites, job banks, and other sites with job postings for you.

Jobs by Email: Let the jobs come to you. Use all available job search agents to receive job listings by email. Most job sites have search agents and many use web sites that specialize in sending announcements.

Time Savers: Use resume posting services that are willing post your resume to numerous job sites at once. This can save many hours of data entry.

References Ready: Have a list of all your references ready including name, company, job title, phone number and email address ready to give to interviewers.

Use Your Network: Be cognizant of the fact that many, job openings are not advertised. Spread the word to everyone you know that you are looking for work.

Don't Stop. Don't minimize your job search to the major sites like Hotjobs, Career Builder, and Monster.Check in with the smaller sites that narrow in on a particular career field or geographic location and you will find plenty of job listings.
