Principle Prevention Methods for Lower Back Pain

Most of us at some point I will experience low back pain. This is the most common medical conditions in the world. We depend so heavily on our back for our mobility. Small injuries can begin to have a much greater impact on this area of the body. People most affected are those between 30 and 50 years old. The aging process has some effect on diminishing be vitality of this critical area. If you remain vigilant, you can take actions to reduce the chance of injury and maintain be vitality of your lower back.

What is the structure that makes up the lower back? Structure is often referred to as the lumbar. The lumbar are the five lumbar vertebrae which we know commonly as the lower back. These loans are stacked in a column in separated by soft tissues.

The five lumbar vertebrae house and protect the spinal cord. They are stacked one on top of the other forming the spinal column. Each of these round bones are maintained by spongy pads of cartilage. These assist with shock absorbing. These soft tissues pulled the vertebrae in place and allow for its flexibility.

There are certain chronic conditions which cause degeneration to the soft tissues or the bone of the cervical discs. Conditions such as degenerative disc disease or degenerative arthritis are chronic and may require surgery to rectify.

There are also acute conditions which are characterized by short term pain in the lower back. Certain ones of these conditions are preventable. Many preventable situations are how we lift objects, are sitting position and our posture. We have control over these items and must be careful not to injure our backs.

Many of us work at a desk and have a computer. We may have to sit for long hours at a time. Having the proper sitting position is important to avoid problems in the lumbar. It is important to have an ergonomic chair which supports the spine and the arms. It should be adjustable so it will comfortably fit your body.

Many of us have bad habits when it comes to sitting. We may lay back to much or lean forward too much. Think of how your spine must support your body's weight in different positions. Finding the optimal position to relieve stress on the back is important to avoid problems.

Many of the back problems which can be prevented are due to our posture. You should look at the types of shoes you wear and get ones that are comfortable and support your heel. Look at how you stand and the position of your spine. It is important to not maintain the same position for long periods of time as well.

Many people simply do not lift objects properly. Most of us just bend over and pick things up using our backs. This not only puts the weight of our body on the lumbar but also the weight of the object. This can lead to straining these important muscles.

The proper way to lift an object is to use your legs. Lower your body by bending your knees. Next, and straighten your legs until you are standing upright. Keep your back straight so the weight of the object is put on your legs.

A preventative method to use for strengthening the lower back and maintaining its vitality is stretching. To maximize flexibility of the soft tissues between the discs, you should develop a routine of back healthy activities. These back healthy activities include stretching exercises, walking and massage therapy. Get into a routine to maintain a healthy and flexible lumbar.

Just keep in mind that lack of muscle strength and flexibility in the vertebrae can cause low back pain. By performing exercises, stretching and obtaining massage therapy, you can keep the muscles supple and strong. The keys to long-term back health are strength and flexibility. Make sure you get a routine to ensure your long-term mobility.
