Self-Hypnosis: Using The SMART System To Set Your Goal

By Nellius Rampart

Self-hypnotism is the art of hypnotising yourself and is actually a very easy thing to do. All you are required to do is follow a some simple steps. You then just repeat these steps every day until you have achieved your goal.

The first and most crucial step you must take is to decide what your goal is. Remember the stronger your goal the better when practicing self-hypnosis.

Why should I set a goal you may ask? Well the answer to that is without a goal there is no point in practicing self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis without a goal can just be called meditation. Meditation is fine and a very good thing to practice. but this article is about goals and how achieve them.

One very good way to set a goal that is really strong is to use the S.M.A.R.T. way. What do the letters S.M.A.R.T. mean I hear you say and how can they help me set a goal? Well, S is for Specific. M is for Measurable. A for Affect. R equals Realistic. And T is for Time.

Here's how you might go about setting a strong goal. Lets suppose your goal was to lose some weight. So using the S.M.A.R.T. formula this is what we might get:

Specific: Firstly your goal has got to be specific. The more specific you are the easier it will be to achieve your goal with self-hypnosis. So be exact. For example "I will lose exactly 14 pounds off of my present weight."

Measurable: what does measurable mean. Well when you set a goal you need to know when you have achieved it. So you could say "I will get on the scales on (add a date here) and they will show me I have lost x pounds exactly."

Affect: achieving a goal must have an effect on you in some way. So for example you might say "On the (include date) I will feel like a million dollars standing on the scales and knowing that I have shed exactly x pounds.

Realistic: your goal has got to be realistic you have got to be able to achieve it. An example might be " I know I will be able to lose 14 pounds because I have checked my height/weight ratio and losing 14pounds is realistic."

Timed: you need to set specific date by when you want to reach your goal. You could say something like "I will have lost exactly x pounds by the ( add a date) when I stand on the scales and I will feel fantastic."

And that's it. S.M.A.R.T. and self-hypnosis will make it certain that you will achieve your goal.
