Dealing With Grief: Deeply Missing Her Mother

Dealing with grief: Those who deeply grieve the loss of a loved one represent a large portion of the mail sent to "Afterlife Phil G". One such enquiry recently is from a lady who doesn't want to be named, but she deeply and profoundly grieves for the loss of her mother. Caring for her until the end, but unable to be there for the final moments, she is distraught, and wants to know how to deal with her grief and move on, when she feels so deeply that she will never be able to. Phil answers with comforting advice about spirit contact from the Afterlife.

Thank you for your enquiry. I understand this is a sad time, and different people deal with grief in different ways. In my own case, when I lost my mother, although I was naturally upset, I felt it was all right, that she was all right. And somehow she was around. I can't describe it as being any more than that. At that stage, I didn't really have any signs of proof and I was not what people would call psychic then, but I just felt she was all right and around.

The loss of a loved one can be devastating. They feel their loved ones are out of their life permanently, and they are very sad. I receive many enquiries from people who are deeply distressed at the passing of a loved one. One of my very early clients when I first started doing readings, back in 2005, was a lady who deeply missed her husband. When I was sitting with her, I had the overwhelming feeling, deep down, she KNEW he was around but was afraid to admit it or accept it - she much be crazy to think such a thing. Because she was overwhelmed with grief, she couldn't deal with and couldn't believe that he might be around. I think this is a common occurrence with those who are so deeply distressed, that they miss the signs. Perhaps not even signs, but rather their own inner feelings that the person they miss is around.



There's a story about a man being rescued in a flood which helps to illustrate the point here: He was stuck in a flood and he was standing on the roof of his house. A man in a boat came past and offered him a ride to safety. He said: "No, thank you, I am waiting for God to rescue me". Not long afterwards as the waters rose higher and higher, another boat comes past and again he is offered a ride to safety. And again he declined the offer, saying that God will rescue him. Eventually, with the water at the top of the roof of the house where he's standing, and with his feet in the water, a helicopter comes past. They lower the rope ladder down; a rescuer climbs down and offers a ride to safety. Again he declines, saying he knows God will rescue him. The water comes up higher; the man's washed away and drowns. He goes to the pearly gates, and when he's there he is very upset. He demands to know why, when his faith was so firm and so solid, why wouldn't God rescue him? The reply? "We tried to rescue you three times but you would let us!"

I strongly believe this is what happens with spirit contact from loved ones who have crossed over. I believe they are trying to come through to anybody who is either missing a loved one who has crossed over, or needs to be warned or guided about something. And that's irrespective of whether you believed in an afterlife, and spirit contact or not. In the same way as electricity doesn't care whether you believe in it or not. It will still kill you if you touch it. You're belief or otherwise, in electricity running through a power point is irrelevant. And so too with spirit contact from the afterlife.

When I help people to deal with grief, how to cope, how to get on with life, I always share this advice: They're still with you, and you're getting signs from the ones you miss, now. Now I do understand that contacting someone in the afterlife is not nearly as good as having them here in the physical world, beside you, when you want them to be. However, I have found that understanding that they are still around, and that they are contactable by you, and you can verify that you're not imagining it, is of enormous relief to so many people I help. I know it's not the same as them being here with us physically. Nevertheless, I know from all the thank you letters and e-mail's, that my ideas have helped many. I want to help you.

I rarely do "readings" now due to time demands, but when I reply to feedback on spirit contact (afterlifephilg.com), I sometimes get a specific comment, to say to that person to help verify that I'm not just making this up. It's not like a "reading"; it's just a little statement that comes out of the blue. And more often than not, I get a reply email saying that was wonderful, because it confirmed I wasn't just making things up. But that's not how I want to help you now. I want you to know they're around, and confirm it yourself.

If you grieve the loss of a parent, child, partner or friend, such as the lady who wrote to me recently, who misses her mother so terribly, my advice is this: Put aside your grief for a moment. Grab something that reminds you of him. In my video "CoffeeTime" (there is a link from my website to the video), and also in my Book "Soul Matters - you can talk with the ones you Miss", I talk about setting up a reference point. It can be something that reminds you of them. It could be a coffee cup. It could be a photograph. It could be a piece of clothing. It doesn't matter what it is, it just needs to be something that helps you feel them near you. On my CD "Contacting The Afterlife - A Spoken Beginner's Guide" I t you step-by-step through this process, and that makes it very easy, particularly for people who don't feel they can do this themselves, to make their own connection and verify it. When you're holding or looking at this object, think about them, talk to them, as if they're here right now.

The film "PS I love you", which came out a few years ago and is on DVD shares a wonderful example: The girl who has lost her husband in the film talks to him as if he's really there. It doesn't feel old or strange to her. She doesn't really worry about whether it's real or not. She just does it. That's what I want you to do. Talk to them about things in your life, things that are happening, things that happened in the past, good times, fond memories, some funny things that you did together. And just enjoy the experience as if they're there. You will probably feel overwhelmed. Not with grief, but with a feeling that they really are with you.

But I want you to go further. I want you to approach the whole exercise as if it's real. Whether you believe this or not. When you've finished talking to them, thank them for the experience and for the time spent with you. I'm not worried at this stage whether you believe this is possible or not, I just want you to do it.

You will find each time you do it the experience becomes easier and the contact more recognizable. In my book, and particularly on my CD, I share specifics about the questions I want you to ask, to verify your experiences are real. But you will find after awhile, you won't even need to verify. That's because you'll know the difference between thoughts that are in your head and feelings that seem to hop out of nowhere into your mind. There is a difference. And to start with, you may not recognize it. But if you keep doing this you will.

Do you hate vegetables, whether they're leafy green or anything else? Well, you're not alone. Many people just won't eat vegetables. Leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots, red peppers and squash are high in lutein which helps prevent degenerative sight problems. Still don't want to eat them? Then try a plate of green algae which is also high in lutein. Maybe they don't sound so bad anymore, do they?

The downward facing dog has many uses during yoga. It is a resting pose and also used in changing position. The objective of this exercise is simple. You have to put your body in an inverted v position while feet and the hands are on the floor and form a resting pose.

Breathe out and push your top thighs backward, stretch your heels on the floor and rest them. You may not be able to reach the floor at first, it may need several practice before the muscle can lengthen. Do this in 3 minutes.

The answer to the causes of stuttering are several. Instead of concentrating on finding the cause, it is much easier to work on finding a solution.

The many opinions on what causes stuttering is just speculation. There has never been a definitive origin of the condition. In contrast, there are solutions that have been known to generate results. If you are someone who stutters, I am almost certain that your main focus will be finding the cure anyway.

By doing this they are affirming their station in life but should be affirming the place that they should be and believing that they are receiving their cosmic order.

When often carry the belief systems of others with us throughout our lives. If you were told as a child that you were fat, skinny, stupid or anything negative, these comments likely changed the belief that you have for yourself.

If we were living in a perfect world, each and every child would be raised with the support and knowledge that the do indeed deserve everything that they want in this life. Instead we are taught as children that we don't deserve the things we want unless we earn them through many hours of very hard work.

It is also wrong to always say that we should count our blessings. There is no good reason that we should be willing to settle for next to nothing. There are enough riches in the world for everybody. There is so much in fact that that it could stretch to infinity.

If you feel that the only way to get what you want is to covet the riches of other people, then you are reinforcing the belief that others have more and you have less. Instead you should be happy for people that have riches and believe that the universe holds enough well for each and every one of us.

Does the power of positive thinking really work? Yes it does and to prove the point you should take a look at the scientific studies that prove that the human brain can create energy waves that can move a quark, the smallest physical particle known to man.

The most difficult part of practicing cosmic ordering is learning to free ourselves of all of our negative beliefs. These negative beliefs that are embedded firmly in our memory banks have to be swept away. In order to accomplish this you must be prepared to use every tool that is at your disposal.

There is nothing to worry about though since there are some really powerful tools that we can use. Two really effective tools that can be used to target our subconscious minds are self hypnosis and subliminal suggestion. Once we have gained access to this region of our mind we can get to work and begin systematically wiping the negative thoughts form our mind and begin to reap the benefits of the cosmic ordering service.

These cars use more gas, but you wouldn't believe just how many people will not give up their petrol-guzzling SUV. Hybrid vehicles do eventually cost their owners less to own than conventional vehicles do. So there is no need to worry about settling for being swindled by the oil economy.

Soon there will be an end to the "cheap oil period". Soon, we could all be in over our heads, because not only will we be in an energy crisis, but in a peak oil crisis too. During this peak oil crisis period, there will be petrol shortages and natural gas shortages as well. The major countries will need to compete against one another for whatever small amount of fuel remains.

Therefore, everyone may have some problems, and countries may have to fight for who gets oil and who does not. The peak petrol crisis can be put off, if more people just purchased hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicles ensure that people are not always having to be looking for fuel. Additionally, there are advances being made in hybrid vehicles all the time.

The plug-in hybrid vehicles, for instance, might not even need oil at all one day. So, just in case we do have an energy crisis, Americans ought really to be spending the time to finding a solution to the impending oil crisis in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are the method to beat the energy crisis, and if countries still want to fight each other over gas, at least America will know they attempted to slow the impending crisis by investing in hybrid cars.

It?s quite well known that the much of the negativity that is shown towards the Freemasons is based on what is believed to be their secrecy. Others state that because the secrecy is the priority of the Masons what goes on has never been really released. The Masons look at the fact of keeping their rituals a secret as a bond and not some sinister act. Pro Masons will tell you there are no blood oaths or ceremonies that take place amongst the Masons and certainly no physical violence.

Anti Masons who refer to violence by way of punishment within the Mason walls have been said to glean their information from historical data of the Masons. This is not to say that the Masons of the 1700?s were party to violent acts either. It is said that their references from those days in regards to punishment was purely symbolic.

So where does the speculation come in that a Christian because of his beliefs could never become a Mason? It is based on the fact that the Freemasons state they allow all religions to enter their group. It is known that not all religious groups believe in Christ in the same way that the Christians do. The Christians believe that if they do not accept Christ as their way to get into heaven then there is no other way. Other religions do not abide by this. So how could a Christian become part of this organization that says a member must believe in a ?Superior Being??

The argument goes further. If there are Christians amongst the Masons that have the Christian belief then they are amongst those who they call their brothers that are non-Christian.

In addition to all of this the Freemasons also lays out a plan of salvation, which is depicted, with their ritual of the Common Gavel. It is said by some that this ritual is directed towards those who do not believe in Christ.

Therefore, what is believed to be the actual stand that the Freemasons have on religion. It is indicated that the Lodges have one main deity called the ?The Great Architect of the Universe?. In the lodge, all members must pray to this deity. They supposedly have a ritual that is based on the afterlife called the ?slaying and raising of Hiram Abif, who is know to be the Hero of the Masons.

The argument based on actions such as this would raise a better question as to what do Freemasons constitute as a religion if they do not consider themselves as such. In answer to this, some will say they do not have all of the constitution of what constitutes religion. They are referring to no creed, no claim to faith or doctrine, no theory and no worship regimes. They have no religious symbols such as those found in other religions. They raise no money for religion.

It is well known and that the Freemasons date back to at least the 1700?s and most likely even further than that. In those days, it was simply a gathering of stonemasons that enjoyed each other?s fellowship. It grew over the years as to what we now know as the Freemasons. Attitude And The Pursuit Of Happiness

A good outlook will take you a long way in life. Just having hope and belief in a better future is a good outlook. This gives you a proactive attitude towards life.

Some people think that to be successful you have to be ultra competitive and step on others to reach your goals. But living in your own personal dog eat dog world causes lots of stress and hurting others causes unhappiness.

What you need to do is enjoy life and know that happiness is closer than you think. If you are not satisfied with where your life is going, it may be because you have hurt others along the way and that your conscience is bothering you. Or it could be that your ladder of success is against the wrong wall.

We each have to find our own path with a heart. We each have to live towards fulfilling our purpose. When we don't live from a sense of purpose in life, we end up making poor choices that lead us away from happiness.

Attaining happiness often depends on discovering and living from our purpose. One way to do this is to see what lights you up in the future. What is a future that calls to you? Another important thing to focus on is living in the present moment. Enjoying and paying attention to what's around you.

You cannot over rate living more in the present. Opportunities and choices surround us in each moment. Being present helps you to be proactive and make choices that move us towards the future we want.

Sure, almost nobody talks about purpose in life, but it is so important to our own well being. Discovering and living from your sense of purpose will fill you with hope and a proactive approach to the problems in life.

Peace and a satisfying life is available to us at all times. We just need to live more in the moment and have a proactive attitude about getting to our best future.

Acres of Diamonds

The quotation is taken from Russell H Conwell's lecture Acres of Diamonds is one that I particularly like. It illustrates his love for life first, rather than any love of money. However, the book itself is about money - money as a means, that is, not as an end in itself. Because as a means, money opens the door to possibility.

As a Baptist minister, Conwell was often forced to rebut popular criticism on his central proposal that money was not an evil or bad thing in itself. Many people would attempt to quote the Bible to him in support of their beliefs that the acquisition of wealth was somehow wrong. He would always point out, in these cases, that they had misquoted the Bible especially with respect to the 'love of money is the root of all evil' citation that was so often mis-quoted to him.

His most famous work on the subject, Acres of Diamonds deals with opportunity and where it might be found. Using a number of apparently true and very interesting stories illustrating how people have missed opportunity, he suggests that becoming wealthy or not, as the case may be, may simply be a matter of recognising opportunities that lay before us.

The book is, in essence, a parable or learning story that illustrates how it is possible to be literally surrounded by diamonds and not recognise the fact. People found the message to be so powerful that he was asked to deliver the lecture time after time throughout his public life.

A classic self-help text, the book is well worth reading, again and again, until its message really sinks in: if you are looking to achieve success, you must learn how to recognise opportunity and Acres of Diamonds is probably the best book ever written of that subject.

True For You, But Not For Me?

"All religions, cultures, and lifestyles are equally valid."

Have you ever heard that? It is a very popular view espoused in discussions about religion, morality, and sometimes politics. The view is that there are no absolute truths or objective morals that are true for all people and cultures; rather, truth is relative. All roads lead to Rome, and all religions lead to God, as they say.

Therefore, the conventional wisdom goes, one ought not judge other religions, lifestyles, or cultures as wrong or misguided. Doing so would make about as much sense as me judging your choice of one ice cream over another. It is okay if "my truth" gives me some personal benefit, but I shouldn't be so naive to think that it applies to others. Tolerance is the buzz word of the day.

Chances are that either you've heard this many times before or you yourself think this way.

What should we make of this point of view?

First off, while folks might say they believe this, no one believes it deep down. Our actions betray our real beliefs. If a friend claimed to sincerely believe its ok to torture babies for fun, you wouldn't be "tolerant" towards that belief--you would recommend they get help quickly, to paraphrase philosopher William Craig. Your friend would simply be mistaken; it doesn't matter what culture he comes from.

Let's conduct a little thought experiment. Say you are at work after hours, and you over hear an African-American female co-worker converse with a white male co-worker. As you spy in, the female looks hurt. Suddenly, the male co-worker shouts various racial slurs and calls her a derogatory part of the female anatomy. Has the male done anything wrong? Not just wrong "for you," but wrong, end of story. If the male and female were both from, say, an Arabic or Asian culture, would that change things?

The answer is not complicated. The man in the situation is wrong, not just "for you," but really wrong. It does not make a difference what culture he comes from.

Next, the person who says "there is no universal truth, so you should be tolerant of others' beliefs" contradicts herself. At the end of the day, she says that it's wrong to say others are wrong! On the one hand, she says that truth and morality are relative, but on the other hand she offers that as if it is pure, unadulerated, obvious truth.

She thinks this doesn't only apply to her. Talk to her more, and you'll find out she thinks you should agree with her. Here's a conversation that demonstrates this (that I borrow from Greg Koukl):

"Morality is relative. People have different moral beliefs, so you shouldn't judge them."

"Is that your morality?"

"For sure!"

"If that's your morality, by all means, go with it, but don't judge me and push it on me."

See where this is going? By using words like "should" or "ought," she saws off the branch she is sitting on.

Or take this example:

"There is no 'Truth' with a big 'T,' only 'little t' truths."

"Is that true for you, or just true period?"

She's in a tight spot. If she answers the former, then she has contradicted herself, but if the latter, she is being consistent, but it's just "her truth," and she can be safely ignored. She most likely doesn't want to make her view irrelevant like that, though. The fact of the matter is that saying some are right and others are wrong is unavoidable. Best to drop the "big T/little t truth" malarkey.

Getting a divorce is not always the best choice. When you find the right book to help cope with marriage problems, you can solve the troubles. As that happens, you can discover a more fulfilling and renewed love of the person that you've decided to spend your life with.

The bottom line is that you want to avoid self blame. Don't hold all the hurt in and try to figure it out on your own. Let a good save marriage book giving you some ways to help put the spark back inside and outside your bedroom.

Develop Telepathy; Yes You Really Can Become Telepathic!

In layman's terms, telepathy is simply the transfer of thoughts, feelings, and/or emotions between one person and another, using only the power of their minds.

The ability to communicate telepathically is something all humans possess to some degree, but unfortunately, they have lost the means by which to control it on a conscious level. We have all experienced telepathic activity subconsciously on occasions but just imagine being able to control that ability, and being able to use it to communicate with others.

Have you ever been walking down the road feeling as though you are on top of the world, only to bump into someone you know, and to discover they are feeling depressed and miserable? Within just a short space of time your own mood will have changed to be more in line with that person's mood. Even so, there is still much skepticism regarding the use of mind power.

The reason for this being; it's not the words themselves which are solely to blame, but it's also the transfer of that person's feelings and emotions, as they were received by your subconscious mind.

It has also been established scientifically, that if one manages to gain access to their subconscious mind, and they learn how to focus their thoughts towards another specific person, it is possible to once again stir up those dormant telepathic abilities.

As with our regular form of communication, we are taught as children by our parents and teachers. Not only do our elders teach us the art of speech, but they also teach us body language. In fact, so effective is this method of teaching that we even learn to speak using the same accents. Unfortunately, we only learn to communicate in the ways which we are taught.

However, what would life be like to day if our parents and teachers had taught us to use the "other ability"? Because we have never been taught how to communicate with our minds, we lack that ability, but that's not to say that we cannot still go ahead and develop the skill.

Here are some things you can try in order to awaken your telepathic ability:

Training Your Mental Muscle

It only stands to reason that in order to master the art of telepathic communication, we need to strengthen and develop our telepathic muscle in much the same way as children need to develop their voice boxes, and the ability to control the way they use their mouths.

Interestingly enough, that part of your brain which controls telepathic communication, functions at its best on a subconscious level which is similar to a trancelike state. In essence, this trancelike state is simply a level deep relaxation which all humans can achieve with relative ease.

Providing you learn how to relax your mind sufficiently, this trancelike state can be reached, and when you do, you would have begun to train your mind so that it can be controlled at will.

Focusing

Admittedly, when one is in a trancelike state of mind, if can be rather difficult learning how to stay focused. The next time you manage to achieve a state of deep relaxation, try to focus exclusively on someone you'd like to contact, or have contact with.

You need to picture this person in your mind together with happy thoughts. You then need to imagine this person actually receiving all those thoughts and feelings you're trying to transfer across. The length of time that you need to remain focused will depend on how long you feel it takes to make a connection.

The next step requires you to cut your focus off completely in order to end the contact. This step is vital as it will cause the other person to realize the connection has been lost, and in turn they will try and make contact with you.

The reason why it is advisable for you to practice focusing while you're on your own, is so that when the time comes for you to practice with a partner, your mind will already be conditioned to receive images, thoughts, feelings, and impressions.

Practicing With a Partner

Once you have a partner, the two of you need to decide which one will be the sender, and which one will be receiving. Ideally, the sender should only attempt to project images of simple things, preferably of things which are brightly colored and easy to recognize.

The receiver on the other hand should be prepared in order to take down notes with regards to any thoughts or impressions which they feel they receive.

When the two of you have reached the end of your practice session, then of course you should both compare your notes in order to see just how accurate the two of you have been. As time goes by, and you practiced more, you will find that you both become noticeably better as far as telepathic communication is concerned.
