The Wonders Of A Full Body Massage

By Ned Dagostino

There is very little to beat a full body massage delivered by a licensed professional massage therapist. It relieves you of tensions of the body and the mind, and some even go so far as to say, the soul. This article does not refer to nor recommend visits to those massage parlors that are run by unlicensed and untrained personnel.

There are a number of benefits that a full body massage gives you.

Massage as a therapeutic technique springs from the concept of 'touch therapy'. This concept says that humans benefit tremendously form being touched. Babies who receive a lot of fondling in the days immediately following their birth are well and healthy. Damaged muscle fibers heal quicker when they are massaged properly. The blood circulation is stimulated by a massage, leading to overall better health and cell development. The lymphatic system, which is closely associated with the circulatory system, is also stimulated. This in turn enhances our immune system. The usual effect of a massage is an invigoratingly restorative one, which means that you get rested in such a wonderful way that you feel fresh and full of pep and energy!

Never had a full body massage before? It is a truly wonderful experience, as we'll describe below.

A well reputed massage parlor will charge you anything from $50 to $100 for a an hour long session. You'll be led into a private cabin where you'll be asked to remove your clothes and then lie prone on the massage table. An assistant will cover you with a sheet, not just for the sake of modesty, but actually as a requirement of the massage therapy, since body warmth must be maintained. Only one part will be uncovered at a time, the one which is being massaged. Using special aromatic oils the masseuse will begin the massage, using a variety of manipulative movements of her hands, the main being strokes or gentle kneading or circular movements.

It is common for the masseuse to begin the massage at the feet and then work her way up, past the legs, up to the hips. You will feel the warmth generated by her hands flowing into the muscles, relaxing each fiber, untwisting the veins and arteries, nerves and tendons and ligaments. There are a number of methods of massage. You should let the massage therapist select the one that is best for you. When you have had ten or more massages, you'll be experienced enough to make your own choice!

From the hips her hands will move over the back, the arms and shoulders, the neck, and finally the head.

Massaging heals the body from within. This natural healing process is entirely restorative. Just make sure you patronize a reputed massage parlor, and get massaged by a trained and licensed professional therapist. Getting a massage by an untrained masseuse may actually aggravate your aches and pains instead of alleviating them. Now you'll have to excuse me! I have a massage waiting for me!
