The Evolution of Flat Screen Televisions

By Arthur Terter

There are a lot more choices now for televisions than there used to be. The emergence of the flat screen technology has revitalized the TV industry and more and more people are going out to buy one. If you go to your local electronics store you will see more flat screens hanging from the walls than ever before.

This leads one to wonder whether it is worth paying more for a name brand or whether a lesser-known brand might be just as good. If you truly want the cheapest flat screens, you will have to get one of the unknown name brand models or else find one of the major brands on sale.

When flat screen televisions first went on the market, they were all of the plasma variety and they were extremely expensive. If you wanted one of those earlier models, you had to pay three to six thousand dollars and that was even before HD came on the scene. Only the richer people could afford one and you mostly only saw them in bars. Now that the prices have gone way down, flat screens are pretty standard in most homes.

Prices have come down a lot for flat screens but they are still more than people were used to paying for the old tube screens. It seems that everyone is perfectly willing to pay $1,000 or so for a TV now but while in years past before flat screens, hardly anyone had a set that cost that much. People just love the look of the flat screen and the ability to hang it on the wall and for that they are willing to pay more than in years past with tube TVs.

Flat screen televisions have breathed new life into the market as everyone wants to get on board with one. They take up less space on a counter or even less by hanging on a wall and people love the look of them. Gamers play all their game systems on them now and the time when we all had much smaller bulky TVs has long been forgotten.
