Three Everyday Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks That Everyone Must Know

By Bryan Enderson

It is estimated that more than 30 million people in the United States alone suffer from anxiety and/or panic attacks. This is a problem that has become a public health concern. There are many common anxiety symptoms that everyone should be aware of in order to identify an anxiety attack as it is starting.

Often times people who undergo panic or anxiety attacks will mention that they felt perfectly "fine" right up until the attack. But in fact little changes have already begun to manifest inside of them. With a little awareness they will begin to pick up on these changes before it is too late.

A typical panic attack or anxiety attack will last anywhere from a minute to about a half hour. In some circumstances a person can fall victim to a panic attack lasting more than an hour. A prolonged panic attack of more than two hours may indicate the need for emergency intervention.

The following three symptoms represent the most oft reported anxiety attack symptoms:

Elevated Heart Beat - Anxiety attacks cause the resting heart rate to speed up. And once a panic attack is fully underway the heart may be beating at a highly elevated rate.

As your heart rate begins to escalate you can counter the sensations by taking slow and deliberate breaths. It could take as many as fifteen minutes for your body to return to normal levels.

Feeling a Mental Disconnect - People often report feeling the sensation that they are separate from their bodies and minds during an anxiety episode. As a result of this sensation they feel as though they cannot interact with their environment or think clearly. The whole experience is often described as being out-of-body.

This disconnect is often brought on by the flood of adrenaline into the body. The best approach is to calm the heart rate down by focusing on the breathing exercises described in the paragraph above.

Feeling Endangered - Anxiety episodes provoke a flight or fight reflex. As a result of this people often report that they felt like they might die because their heart was beating so rapidly or breathing was so labored.

The important thing to remember is that you are not going to die or damage your body. While an anxiety attack is very stressful to undergo it is actually a normal flight or fight reaction that the brain is generating and you will calm done and return to normal after a few minutes.

Many sufferers of panic attacks report many other symptoms in addition to these three. But, by keeping watch over your body for these three signs you can help avert a panic attack before it takes control of you.
