10 Notable Quotations on Fashion from the Experts

By Jayde Johanssen

So many people want to be fashion icons, but so very few actually make it in this world. But for those who somehow manage to make the leap and succeed as legends in their own time, their experiences and wisdom deserves to be passed on to generations of aspiring fashionistas. It's not just downtown hipsters who should pay heed to the words of their elders. Regular women looking for a bit of inspiration for their daily fashion and attitude would do well to listen to words on fashion from the experts, too.

At the epicenter of a movement of clever artists, models, and filmmakers, Andy Warhol understood what it meant to create fashion and style. Never one to go underquoted, his words of wisdom continue to enhance the lives of aspiring fashionistas. One memorable quotation: "I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They're beautiful. Everybody's plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic."

One of fashion's heavyweights, Christian Dior is always creating a collection that has jaws dropping regardless the year or season. Famous quote: "Zest is the secret of all beauty. There is no beauty that is attractive without zest."

Perhaps the biggest name in American fashion, Anna Wintour is important enough as the editor of Vogue that she even had a movie made about her, called "The Devil Wears Prada." While not the devil itself, she does have a particularly strong wit for saying what she thinks that should serve as an inspiration for many generations to come: "I read in the New York Times this week that I'm an ice queen, I'm the sun king, I'm an alien fleeing from District 9 and I'm a dominatrix. So I reckon that makes me a lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space. Whattaya think?"

Proving that one's not born a woman but rather, becomes one, RuPaul has been setting the bar for her own unique brand of fashion since the 1990s. Still kicking, her incredibly witty insight on the world at large is worth repeating, and her search for the next best drag queen netted tons of viewers recently. One notable quote of hers: "With hair, heels, and attitude, honey, I am through the roof."

Even though he's currently rocking more grey hairs than ever before, incredible fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier is still called the enfant terrible of the fashion world. His rebellious attitude to fashion definitely has produced some gems over the years: "It's always the badly dressed people who are the most interesting."

One of the original supermodels, Naomi Campell is a woman not known to hold back on what she's thinking: "This year, we have gone back all the way that we had advanced. I don't see any black woman, or of any other race, in big advertising campaigns."

One of the first supermodels, Cindy Crawford definitely saw the world of modeling change in the middle of one of the most prolific times for fashion in the States. Her candid interviews have led to helpful words of wisdom, like this one: " Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford.
