If you are feeling tired and having trouble sleeping then you may have insomnia. But this in itself is a very complex problem, which is often what leads to it being so difficult to treat. To help you out, here is a quick guide to the symptoms of insomnia, both common and more serious.

Common Insomnia Symptoms

Symptoms of insomnia generally include some of these common complaints: waking up many times during a night, finding it difficult to fall asleep in the first place, feeling anxious, putting on weight.

There are many reasons why you might be finding it hard to sleep well. Two common signs of insomnia include the fact that your mind is always restless, and that you just can't seem to relax properly.

Even if you have absolutely no problem falling asleep in the first place, you may still have insomnia if you find that you wake up a number of times throughout the night. This can still leave you feeling just as tired.

Other Indications of Insomnia

The most common symptoms are those that were listed above. However, you could even experience any number of symptoms.

Some more serious symptoms include: Mood swings, Shifts in behaviour, Severe anxiety.

If you have these symptoms then your insomnia could have chronic insomnia, and may need medication such an anti-depressants. Remember, you don't have to have all of these symptoms to have insomnia. If you are unsure, you should visit your doctor for advice. This article is simply a guide.
