What Exercises are considerable for CT Symptoms?

By Tom Nicholson

You might be getting really frustrated with the carpal tunnel symptoms that just won't let up. You could be in a lot of pain and find that aspirin just isn't helping. You may be looking for ways to get your hands on some effective pain relievers. You need to stop this line of thinking right away. If carpal tunnel syndrome isn't properly treated the symptoms will just get worse and you will become even more unproductive than you are right now.

Just keep in mind that your hands are precious. The truth is that you cannot do anything without them, and so it is important for you do know the science behind your wrist and hand movements and to also know what to do to keep your hands loose to prevent carpal tunnel pain. It isn't difficult to do and will save you time and money in the future. Your hands need you!

But what is carpal tunnel syndrome? Carpal tunnel syndrome is a nerve condition that effects the hands, fingers and arms and is attributed to pain (and is also caused by) repetitive motion from a job or hobby that you frequently perform. Some of these jobs are as typists, construction workers or even football players. The condition starts when the median nerve is pinched at the point of the wrist.

The median nerve runs the length of the arm and is bunched together by the transverse carpal ligament there. This transverse carpal ligament can become tightened around the wrist thus causing the problem with the median nerve.

The symptoms can be mildly annoying to debilitating depending on the severity and how long you leave it untreated. Symptoms are wide ranging; from tingling in the fingers and hands, to numbness or a burning sensation in the forearm area. Sometimes the hands and fingers will grow numb or cold. There can even be pain and complete loss of functionality for short periods of time! Of course, this leads to back problems, neck problems, or shoulder problems do to the poor posture you may take on as you try to alleviate the stress from your wrists. It is like a complete unbalancing of your body in order to compensate for the pain in your wrists and hands.

What do people do about carpal tunnel symptoms? Many people consider surgery for carpal tunnel symptoms, but that can be a very risky path to take. After all, we really don't know the full results of any surgery, and so even this simple procedure can cause some major problems for you down the road. And do you really want your transverse carpal ligament severed? Sure, it heals back but no one knows how well the recovery will actually go and whether or now you will regain all the strength in your hands again. Surgery should be considered only as a last resort! You can reduce or even reverse the effects of carpal tunnel syndrome by taking some time to do some simple stretches and exercises. You can make simple movements with your hands, such as pinching something and then stretching your hands wide. You can even pull your fingers down, bending the wrist and stretching out the transverse carpal ligament. You can even ball your hand into a fist and then bend it downward at the wrist. You can just feel the transverse carpal ligament stretching into a comfortable position. A few minutes of great exercises and you'll be ready to get back to work.
